Fiji Islands - FLR Volume 1 - Preface |
PREFACE
This volume contains all that I have been able to obtain of cases determined since the establishment of the present Supreme Court of Fiji in 1875 down to the year 1897, when I commenced to put the material I had collected into definite shape for the press.
This task was not completed when I left the Colony in 1899; since which time my legal duties elsewhere have prevented me from finishing it until now. It will be understood that the cases here reported are not by any means all that have been determined by the Supreme Court during that time, but only those that are of particular or local interest and value from being based on local enactments or on the Western Pacific Orders in Council.
In the hope that this volume may be the means of preserving these interesting cases relating to the early history of the Colony and may prove to be of service to judges and magistrates alike in dealing with the local Ordinances, Regulations, and Orders in Council upon which authoritative decisions have already been given, I offer this result of no inconsiderable portion of my labour and time which I was able to spare from my duties as Attorney-General of the Colony.
J.S. UDAL.
Chief Justice's Chambers,
Antigua, Leeward Islands, W.I.
