PacLII derives its data from many sources and there currently does not exist a vendor-neutral or media neutral standard for the jurisdictions that are covered. While these standards are being developed, PacLII has applied a set of vendor neutral and media neutral citations so that material on PacLII can be properly referred to, each case having a unique and consistent citation.
All cases on PacLII have a suggested vendor neutral citation which takes the form:
[year] court decision-numberfor example:
[2000] VUCA 21 is the 21st judgment published on PacLII for the year 2000 for the Vanuatu Court of AppealSome courts and tribunals have been attempting to add media neutral paragraph numbering to judgments with greater or less success and where this has been done, these are included in PacLII judgments. Where this is not the case, PacLII has retrofitted a set of paragraph numbers. It is suggested that references to paragraphs within a judgment should be in square brackets (to distinguish them from page numbers) as in:[1999] SBHC 7 is the 7th judgment published on PacLII for the year 1999 for the Solomon Islands High Court
etc
