ISLAND COURTS (REPEAL) ACT 2021

AN ACT TO REPEAL THE ISLAND COURTS ACT AND RELATED MATTERS

Commencement [3 June 2022]

1. Short Title

This Act may be cited as the Island Courts (Repealed) Act 2021.

2. Repeal of the Island Courts Act

The Island Courts Act and the regulations made under it are repealed.

3. Savings and Transitional

At the commencement of this Act, the repealed Act –

(a) does not affect any order, decision, ruling or judgment made by an Island Court prior to the commencement of this Act as that order, decision, ruling or judgment remains valid and continues to be in force.
(b) does not affect any penalty, forfeiture or punishment incurred in respect of an offence committed under the repealed Act; and
(c) does not affect any legal proceeding under the repealed Act which continues unabated for which a determination of that legal proceeding will be made by the Magistrates Court.

4. Regulation

The Minister may make regulation on any matter that will facilitate the effectiveness of the savings and transitional provisions under this Act.
