This is an appeal lodged by Paul PARISE, French citizen, business employee living at Santo, against a judgment (No. 4) given on 8th August 1947 by the Court of First Instance, Northern District, held under the presidency of the French District Agent, which sentenced the appellant to pay a fine of 2,480 francs for having supplied alcoholic liquor to natives (Breach of Article 59 of the Protocol, punishable under Article 61 thereof).
The appeal was lodged on 27th August 1947 and is therefore regular and admissible.
Mr PUJOL, who appeared on behalf of the appellant, presented the case for the defence and the Public Prosecutor ad hoc having delivered his address the Court then retired to consider its judgment.
JUDGMENT
The Court of First Instance has shown a clear appreciation of the facts in this case and has applied the law in a just manner,
ON THESE GROUNDS,
The Joint Court,
Unconditionally affirms the judgement given in the Lower Court and sentences the appellant to pay costs amounting to Fourteen shillings and Threepence Sterling.
